We are planning to expand the neurology department from two to three medical teams, and in combination with a retirement, we are looking for additional specialist doctors or consultants to strengthen our staffing.

The neurology department at Helsingborg Hospital is responsible for neurological outpatient and inpatient care for patients primarily from the hospital's primary catchment area. We are also responsible for running the Neurology course at the Medical Program, Lund University for 24 students per semester.

The inpatient care is conducted in the Neuro-Stroke department with a monitoring unit with 5 telemetry places and 14 single rooms. Acute stroke care is the dominant activity in the department, where all neurological conditions requiring inpatient care are managed. The department has a team responsible for early discharge and home rehabilitation. Outpatient care is conducted via the clinic and includes a day care unit with five treatment places. Care for MS, Parkinson's, epilepsy, ALS, and TBI is team-based, where team-responsible doctors together with four outpatient nurses play a central role. The outpatient care also includes a physician line for acute neurological day care, where acute/subacute investigation of patients not requiring inpatient care is conducted. Both outpatient and inpatient care are well-staffed with occupational and physiotherapists and have good access to speech therapists, dietitians, and social workers. The hospital has a radiology department with the possibility of CT, CT-angiography, and perfusion around the clock, as well as MRI and Neurophysiology lab during office hours and ICU with continuous EEG monitoring.

The educational assignment includes course responsibility as well as theoretical and clinical training of medical students. For six weeks per semester, we supervise students during their clinical placement in the department and clinic. Most of us also participate in case-based teaching. We who are responsible for care and educational assignments are a close-knit, knowledgeable, and unpretentious group, consisting of six consultants, two specialist doctors, and four residents. As the hospital is a teaching hospital, we view research very positively. We have allocated funds from Region Skåne to facilitate the path from dissertation to associate professorship for doctors active in medical education. There are also significant external funds for research linked to Helsingborg Hospital.

In addition to outpatient and inpatient placements, we staff a consultation line during office hours. Our on-call duty consists of rounding our department on holidays from 9 AM to 4 PM.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

As a consultant or specialist doctor, you will work with outpatient and inpatient care in our consultation line and participate in our weekend on-call line. In outpatient care, there is an opportunity to focus on a profile area. In your role, you can participate in clinical supervision and training of medical students and are offered training for this. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to participate in commissioned research and the academically driven research we are involved in. Independent research will be supported.

QUALIFICATIONS

We are looking for a licensed specialist in neurology with the authority to work within Swedish healthcare. Language skills in Swedish at least corresponding to level C1 according to the Council of Europe's level scale are required. It is advantageous if you have several years of work experience as a specialist, preferably with teaching and research experience.
